A Love Letter to 2020, A Guiding Theme

I’m not big on New Year’s resolutions. I find they’re way too much pressure. I pile enough goals on my daily and weekly to-do lists that adding a task that spans an entire year is totally overwhelming to me.

Last year I decided that it would be more fulfilling to choose a guiding theme for the year. 2019 was a year of small indulgences. It was lovely.

Essentially, the theme gave me permission to make choices that I often struggle with. A small example: buying the hand soap that was prettier or felt more luxurious, not just the one that was one sale. A more significant example: choosing to skip an activity in favour of a night-in to rest.

In 2020, I’m going to carry on with a guiding theme to give myself permission to focus on a larger, ongoing project — creating a home (and one that is comfy, cozy, hygge-filled, and conducive to the life I want).

Since purchasing a century home this past summer, we have been slowly tackling the never-ending list of repairs and upgrades. (You can follow along on my IG Highlights under “Century Home”) This year’s theme will not only focus on these larger projects, but also the smaller details that I usually don’t prioritize because they are less productive or less important. The truth is, I actually delight in these details, like decorating the fireplace mantle, redoing a piece of furniture, creating a beautiful meal (even when it’s just the two of us). I think these are the details that create the cozy home vibe that I’m going for.

Thus, 2020 will be a year of home making. What types of things do you do to making your home warm, comfortable, and inviting for yourself and your loved ones?

Do you have a guiding theme for 2020?

xoxo Krista

This is really lovely. I keep trying to picture your house. I know the neighbourhood! I know it will be so beautiful when you are done, but I am willing to bet every step of the way it is cozy and good.

Happy New Year! I hope your journey brings you joy.
